"I feel so much humbled by this grace..."
Posted: May 10, 2012

"My child, you are not created like a little duck waddling in the mud, but as an eagle destined to rise above." These famous words of Fr. have kept resounding in my ears ever since I became part of the Sisters of Mary family.

Fourteen years ago, I was just an innocent farmer's daughter in a very remote town in Bukidnon province, on the island of Mindanao. By God's grace, I passed the requirements of a Sisters of Mary scholarship. Then, for four years, under the tutelage of the Sisters of Mary and school teachers, I learned to work hard, engage in and enjoy sports, make good in my studies, and win regional and national contests. But most of all, I learned to love God more. The Sisters of Mary drew out the best in me. Slowly, I was transformed into a better individual.

When I decided to pursue my college studies, I felt so blessed since I was again chosen to become a Sullivan scholar. As a scholar, I was supported not only financially but also emotionally and spiritually. Apart from my parents, the Sisters were always there are confidants.

Once more, I came to a crucial point in my life when I opted to pursue a Master's degree in medicine, believing that I could find more self-fulfillment in this field. Again the Sisters as much as my parents were so encouraging and supportive. Enduring the long years of study was indeed a very tough job. I kept on faltering, I kept on getting tired to the point of almost giving up, but God's grace kept me going.

As I increased in years and experience, I realized how blessed I have been among the million, and that each day, I would wake up thanking God for bringing into my life Fr. Al and the Sisters of Mary.

And now, I am a doctor! I myself, my family and my town-mates can hardly believe it. I can only attribute this triumph to God's love, which was made known to me through the Sisters of Mary, the Sullivan Family, and all the other benefactors. I am so much humbled by this grace, so that as a doctor, I, too, would like that my future patients would be able to recognize God's love in me.

Now, I feel like I'm beginning to soar like an eagle! Thank you so much, Fr. Al!
