From being bullied at school into an accomplished CPA and EducatorPosted: May 10, 2017
BEYOND A TRACT RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS, A HUMBLE HEART. Fr. Al’s selflessness strongly remains in her heart and acknowledges that all her achievements are from his generosity. Being awarded Best in Catechism was a recognition she cherished more than the academic achievements. Graduating Salutatorian during her SMS stay, she continued to excel even during her professional years as a Lasallian educator. She is a CPA, an MBA degree holder and currently the Chair of Accountancy Department at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. Due to her hard work and continuous quest for excellence, she was awarded Outstanding full-time Accountancy Faculty for six times. She has successfully completed the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales IFRS Certificate level learning and assessment program. She also received a recognition as Outstanding Finance Educator for Luzon by the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) & Delloitte. She also worked as a Technical Consultant, Technical Manager and was later promoted as business Partner to Alas Oplas and Co., CPAs, an accounting firm in Makati. But because of her passion to teach young minds, she gave up her position as an Audit and Assurance Partner together with all the perks that came with it and goes back to where her heart truly belongs.
CREATING A FAMILY AWAY FROM HOME. Looking back, her future was uncertain. They didn’t have money to buy food and school supplies. Being poor, she experienced discrimination in school and it was financially difficult for them. But her faith changed her fate because she believes in God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” True enough, she was accepted at SMS and acquired quality education without worrying about paying its cost. And her greatest take away from this experience was the establishment of personal relationship with the Lord. During her first year, when almost everyone was hurting due to homesickness, she created her own family by frequenting the Chapel. On her knees, she asked the Blessed Mother Mary, St. Joseph and Jesus to be her family while she’s away from home. She would spend her free time in the Chapel reciting the Holy Rosary, reading the Bible or the Lives of Saints or simply conversing with her brother Jesus, Mother Mary and Father Joseph. The precious time she spent with this family had given her tremendous joy and inner peace which has always been reflected in her smile, a joyful and a grateful heart. Hearing the voice of Fr. Al and personally being able to hold his hand during Confession are few of the most cherished moments and encounters she will forever treasure with Fr. Al, with SMS family.
TEACHING MINDS, TOUCHING HEARTS. With a broader perspective she went back to the Academe to help students achieve their dreams through her expertise. And to show her high regard to Fr. Al and the Sisters of Mary for the work that they do to help the poorest of the poor, she is sharing her professional competency to others. She conducts special classes even without corresponding remuneration to help students cope with their lessons and to better prepare them for the CPA Licensure exam. The same is the reason why she volunteers to teach in the Night College Program which offers free college degree courses (under Business Administration) to deserving working students. She also offers her Accounting services for free to her Parish Church. As President of Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Cavite, she’s inspired to take the TESDA Trainers Methodology Course so that through her University, they can offer free TESDA Bookkeeping Course to out-of-school youth. She is currently working on accrediting DLSU-D with TESDA to be able to help and reach out to these street kids and out-of-school youths in their program. Through her chosen profession, she is able to share the values she learns from the Sisters of Mary. Teaching minds, touching hearts, and transforming lives of the students and those around her are her great source of fulfillment.
VOLUNTEERISM AND SPIRITUAL AFFILIATIONS. For two consecutive terms, she also served as one of the most dedicated Presidents to ASMSI from 2006-2009. To satisfy her yearning for spiritual development, she joins the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals since April of 2016. She normally spends her Sunday with her family attending Mass, watching Keryma and bonding with his father (a lay minister) who is currently bed ridden due to a car accident. She believes that it is an answered prayer after her mother recovers from years of battling with cancer. She is also an active member of PICPA having served in various positions such as an Education Sector Director, VP for Professional Development and currently as President of Cavite Chapter. She has been extending her expertise to different organizations such as Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Bukluran Multipurpose Cooperative and the Cavite Diocese Parochial Schools Association with her bookkeeping, auditing and coaching expertise. For freely she receives, and freely she gives, thus, she will fulfill these commitments in the best of her ability not to please men but to please God with joy in her heart and a smile on her face.
